Sr. Data Scientist- R & D IT up to 150K base salary plus 15% bonus and RSU’s- Boston, MA

My client is a highly successful and growing Life Sciences company in Boston, MA.

This person will report to the IT Lead for Translational Medicine within R&D IT. This individual will work closely with leaders across R&D including Translational Medicine, Development Sciences, Discovery & Pre-Clinical Sciences and IT. As a Senior Data Scientist in R&D IT, the individual will identify opportunities and implement strategies to extract value from internal and external datasets on focused technological problems aligned to direct business imperatives. Such business imperatives include extracting value from our world-leading databases, building capabilities that enable high throughput data ingestion, organization, analysis, computation, visualization and sharing/reporting.

He/she will provide the leadership, intellectual impetus and sense of urgency for initiatives that may encompass the full scope of data lifecycle management working with other Data Scientists and Architects in this newly formed group.

Primary responsibilities of this position include:

Primarily work with leaders and scientists in R&D to identify data analysis needs and problems and identify or build solutions working with software developers in IT

As required, work with leaders in other organizations e.g. Sales & Marketing, Market Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, Manufacturing to assist with data analysis problems and needs

Serve as a lead on specialized projects and may be an informal team leader for initiatives

Qualifications

Burning desire to extract value from information, whether internal or external information and applied to our areas of disease focus and drug treatment.

Have experience in several of the following: distributed and high performance computing, data visualization, data aggregation and datamarting, semantic data organization and triple-stores

Strong experience in bioinformatics, medical informatics, clinical informatics or other forms of informatics highly desired

Strong problem solving skills, technical aptitude and customer focus required

Statistical analysis skills and ability for critical thinking required

Software development/scripting skills are required e.g. python, java, scala, shell-scripting, C, C++

Knowledge of data management approaches e.g. relational databases, object stores, column stores, triple stores, graph stores, document stores desired

Experience working in cross-functional groups at the intersection of data analytics and computational technologies (architects, data modelers, developers) desired

 

Education BA/BSc required, MS or PhD preferred in information sciences, computer sciences or informatics.
